How long does it take to register a trademark?

There is no standard amount of time for trademark registration, as there are many factors that can influence the trademark registration process. Generally, when you file an application electronically with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), you will almost immediately receive a filing receipt. If you file by mail, it may take 2 weeks to receive your receipt.

Once you receive the filing receipt, you will see that it contains the serial number of your application. This serial number must be included with all future correspondences with the USPTO. If your application is accepted, you should receive a response from the USPTO within approximately 3 months from the date of application.

Depending on legal issues that may arise during the examination of your application, it may take anywhere from one to several years to register a trademark.

To check the status of your trademark registration, you can view your records through the Trademark Applications and Registrations Retrieval (TARR) database at the USPTO website.

If you are planning to register a trademark with the USPTO, you should first conduct a thorough search of trademarks that are already in existence. This can prevent you from a conflict with an existing trademark owner. To register a trademark with the USPTO, you can seek help from an experienced New York trademark lawyer
