Massachusetts Fair Franchising Bill: What Would It Mean for Franchisees in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts Senator Brian A. Joyce was recently interviewed by Blue MauMau to find out additional information about the Fair Franchising Bill introduced in Massachusetts. Senator Joyce offered some insightful information into the intentions of the bill. Although the franchising bill does not necessarily have all of the kinks ironed out of it as of yet they are working towards creating a solid bill that's intention is to ensure that franchisees in Massachusetts are given a fair chance at entrepreneurial success.Some of the key points addressed during the interview between Senator Brian A. Joyce and Blue MauMau were the following:
- Ensuring that the state sufficiently protect franchisees by not allowing to have a franchise agreement terminated by the franchisor without good cause;
- Possibly delineate some examples of what "good cause" to terminate a franchisee would consist of but not providing a strict and extensive list of reasons for good cause. He believes it is best to provide some examples of good cause so that there is some direction for the court to understand the legislative intent of the bill but without binding them to a set of situations;
- The large possibility that passing a bill protecting franchisees in Massachusetts will encourage more people to purchase franchises and in turn employ more people in the state.
