If you've seen just one episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, then you know how ruthless those women can be. Now one of the stars is making her name as a New York City litigator. Jennifer Gilbert, who is the 42 year-old "Housewife" of a wealthy financial executive, has filed a trademark-infringement lawsuit in a New York City court. Gilbert claims that a small-business owner infringed upon her property rights.
The alleged perpetrator is the owner of a dating service named Save the Date (ing). Gilbert, meanwhile, owns an event planning company which as also named Save the Date. And while the dating service owner claims to have never heard of Gilbert's company, Gilbert has owned the trademark name since 1999. In 2008, Gilbert filed a similar suit against a company named Save The Date Consultants.
In response to the lawsuit, the owner of the dating service promptly changed the name of her business. While claiming to believe that she would have won the case in court, she didn't have the financial resources to fight the infringement lawsuit.
Gilbert, meanwhile, insists to have done what anyone in her position would have done. She protected the rights and the reputation which her company has built over the years.
