What are the Stark Laws (the Physician Self-Referral Laws)?

A: The Stark laws are statutes that prohibit medical practices and/or facilities from submitting - and Federal Health Care programs from paying - any claims for a "designated health service" ("DHS") if the referral of the DHS comes from a physician with whom the medical practice and/or facility has a prohibited financial relationship.
