What is a "Royalty".

A: "Royalties" refer to the continuing monthly or weekly payments paid by franchisees to franchisors.  The amount of a royalty is identified and defined in the franchise agreement and is typically based upon a percentage of the franchisee "gross sales".  In some franchise systems royalties are set as a fixed sum and are not based on a franchisees sales.
