Suffolk County Partnership Law: Important Resources

Suffolk County Partnership Disputes
If you are a partner, shareholder or member with a business based in Suffolk County, NY, a dispute with your partner will be governed by New York Law. If you reside in Suffolk County, NY or your business is located in Suffolk County, more likely than not, your partnership lawsuit will be filed in the Suffolk County Supreme Court.

In Suffolk County, partnership and shareholder disputes are commonly handled by the “Commercial Division” of the Suffolk County Supreme Court. The commercial division is a specialized division comprised of judges who are experienced with business and commercial lawsuits, such as partner and shareholder disputes.

Many partnership and shareholder disputes involve emergency hearings and applications (referred to as an “Order to Show Cause”) where a commercial division judge will hear and decide, on an emergency basis, a motion by your attorney for an injunction, i.e., to stop a corporate lockout or to stop a partner from misappropriating assets.

Suffolk County Court Information
In Suffolk County, the Order to Show Cause is filed with the Special Term Office located at 210 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY 11901. Once presented, the Special Term clerk will review your motion and – if everything is prepared properly – a commercial division judge will be immediately assigned.
