Mighty Quinn's Barbeque Franchise Expansion Fueled by Entrepreneurship

Mighty Quinns Barbeque Franchise

From the Brooklyn Smorgasburg to International Expansion, Mighty Quinn’s is searching for their next franchise success.

From Brooklyn Smorgasburg to International Expansion

Mighty Quinn’s started out at the weekend outdoor Brooklyn market called Smorgasburg in 2011 by founders Christos Gourmos, Micha Magid, and Hugh Mangum.

“The lines quickly formed which validated our belief that the city was craving some real slow smoked BBQ,” explains Micha Magid, co-founder of Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque.

After opening their first brick and mortar location in December 2012, the team at Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque landed on the cover of the New York Times dining section. Thereafter came amazing growth and opportunity.

“On the heels of that success we’ve grown the brand to 10 locations including a restaurant in Yankee Stadium plus an additional 5 locations franchised overseas.”

What Makes Mighty Quinn’s Barbeque So Unique

A large part of Mighty Quinn’s success comes from Co-Founder and Pitmaster Hugh Mangum. “We have a very talented chef behind our food. Hugh’s talent as a BBQ pitmaster is reinforced by his overall knowledge of cooking and ability to create great food across almost any category.”

Mangum has displayed his talents not only behind the scenes at Mighty Quinn’s but is also the winner of Chopped! on Food Network and makes frequent appearances on Beat Bobby Flay.

Centralized Smoking

“We also have a very unique model that allows for centralized smoking which opens up our franchisees to certain real estate opportunities that other BBQ restaurants wouldn’t be able to take advantage of.”

Early on, Gourmos, Magid, and Mangum noticed people happily waiting up to an hour to order their food and were confident that their product was something NYC was missing.

“As we grew to more locations, our brand notoriety increased and Mighty Quinn’s became synonymous with great BBQ in the city. We’re going to replicate this in new markets and create the category leader in fast casual BBQ,” explains Magid.

Mighty Quinn’s has a ton of already established national recognition and has recently been featured on Good Morning America and a number of other news outlets. They’ve gotten massive acknowledgement in the food industry as having The Best Ribs in NYC by Gothamist, part of the Thrillist New York Chains The Rest of the Country Desperately Needs, one of The 23 best BBQ restaurants in America by TimeOut, and so much more.

Focus on Franchise Expansion

The founders saw that their brand had something special and that there was an advantage to being the first standard for fast casual BBQ. “After we proved that our model could be replicated in new areas by opening in 3 new countries with franchisee partners, we decided to move forward with franchising in the US to expedite the growth of the brand.”

“I think our franchisee partners that sign up early will be securing very attractive territories as competition is still very limited.”

Mighty Quinn’s quickly scaled its growth from one unit to 15 locations in less than 6 years. This is a testament to the food but also the entrepreneurs behind the brand.

“We expect to create the same brand buzz in markets as we’ve experienced in NYC. Mighty Quinn’s has become not only a place to get great BBQ but also a frequent dining destination as a part of our guests regular eating routines. The menu is that accessible.”

The Ideal Franchisee

Mighty Quinn’s is currently looking for their newest franchisee partners in New York, California, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Washington and Florida, but they’re not looking for just anyone.

"We want entrepreneurial minded people who have the hospitality gene in their DNA."

“Our ideal franchisee is someone with restaurant experience or partnering with someone who knows their way around a kitchen. We want entrepreneurial minded people who have the hospitality gene in their DNA. We can provide the systems to make amazing food and they need to show up to create a customer service focused atmosphere,” explains Magid.

The franchise offering is ideal for growth-minded entrepreneurs who are looking to expand into multiple locations with a craveable food offering.

We asked Micha Magid what his advice is for business owners that are thinking about franchising. His answer?

“Let’s talk about this next year!” Fair enough.
